Washington, D.C. – June 16, 2025
In a night full of tension and high stakes at Edgewood Rec Center, DC Hyper fought back from a goal down to defeat Frederick Kings 2-1 and secure the UPSL DMV North Premier regular season championship, finishing the first phase of the competition in first place with 23 points.
It was far from an easy night for the Thunder, who saw Frederick open the scoring early and threaten to spoil the title run. But as they have throughout the season, DC Hyper responded with composure and character. João Baesso brought the match level, and shortly after, Allan found the winner, completing the comeback and igniting celebrations on and off the field.
“It was a tough match, and the group stayed mentally strong,” said Head Coach Sergio Caetano. “We’ve built an identity this season — disciplined, resilient, and committed — and today we saw that again when it mattered most.”
With the result, DC Hyper finishes the regular season at the top of the table with 7 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss, and a league-best 23 points, edging out MSI Pro and Club Deportivo Laurel for the top spot. The victory also confirms DC Hyper as the #1 seed for the playoffs, earning the symbolic title and home-field advantage heading into the next stage.
“This is a reward for everyone’s work — staff, players, and leadership — but now the real challenge begins,” said General Manager Gabriel Ferrari. “We’re proud, but we know what’s coming. The goal has always been to compete for the full title.”
DC Hyper now awaits the winner of the playoff match between Bridge Sports and Chiefs United, who will face off for a place in the semifinals. The Thunder will host the winner on Friday, June 28, in the UPSL DMV North Premier Semifinal.
